I had the honor of serving Bluffton, South Carolina, for 20 years—four on Town Council and 16 as Mayor—guiding its transformation from a one-square-mile town of 750 to a thriving community of over 50,000 residents.
Leading during this growth came with challenges, from addressing residents’ concerns about expansion to managing conflicts within councils and staff. Despite differing opinions, I prioritized efficient, focused meetings and spearheaded key developments like the town’s master plan, Buckwalter Commerce Park, and Palmetto Bluff.
Now, I share these strategies with governments, helping them navigate growth, foster collaboration, and run effective, productive meetings
